I’m sick of it. Sick and a bit disgusted of all these people who I know that are bathing in their own self-righteousness and empty zealotry.
I’m sick of all these ‘causes’ people are getting behind. I’m sick of people vicariously pretending that they make the world a better place by being part of a cause. The amount of foundations and organizations and groups of people that get together and say “we want to put an end to this!” and say “let’s make a difference together!” is more overwhelming than ever.
It’s a lie. Putting your name behind a good cause doesn’t make you a good person, and it’s a disgusting sign of the vicarious life of our generation. I don’t think young people have ever had less true involvement in making the world a better place.
These causes and organization bring the work to you, they tell you to join them, and that the more people that join, the more of a difference they can make.
I’ll tell you right now: If you support these causes, you’re not supporting what the cause is fighting for, you’re supporting the cause, the organization behind it. You don’t do work for the issue at hand, you do work for the group ‘fighting’ the issue.
What no one realizes is that these causes get their livelihood from these things happening, so how much change do they really want to make? No company’s goal is to see their own need disappear. Luckily for these causes, the people that are apart of them are vicarious and lazy. You don’t support causes, you support companies sustainability. The work you do keeps the cause alive, and it’s short-sighted.
Someone would argue to me that if the causes didn’t exist, then kids wouldn’t be fighting to make changes at all. If that’s the case, I’m disgusted. We have way too much available information for us to claim “We didn’t know until the cause brought it to our attention.” If you’re not going to try and fix a problem you see in the world, it’s because it was your choice not to, ignorance isn’t a valid response anymore. You know what? that’s fine too. You don’t have to participate in solving a problem if you’re not gonna put the work in. But don’t let these causes tell you that you’d be a good person for joining them.
Fuck all of these good causes with nothing more behind them than an empty message. Stop validating your good moral character with empty participation. If you want to see something change, stop organizing, stop complaining, stop this ugly facade of kumbayah humanitarianism. Just go do it yourself.
If you see a bunch of trash in a park, and you want to change that, go fucking pick up that trash, right then and there, don’t rally together another fucking cause against litter. Don’t start pointing fingers and figuring out who to blame and who needs to be held responsible, just go do it yourself, it shouldn’t matter “whose supposed to be taking care of it”. No one leads by example anymore: Everything is a message, the media, the spreading of the cause, and the action is secondary.
I’m not a religious man, but Jesus told his apostles that good acts should be done in secret, and not for the reward of a good act.
Fuck causes. Take change into your own, individual fucking hands if you really mean it.
So those of you who are part of causes: Fine, it’s your life. But don’t pretend like you aren’t complete hypocrites when you bully someone for having an opinion that isn’t yours. I will not apologize for anything I have said, and I will be glad to fight with you over what I think. This is my cause: “Stop pretending”
I can’t hear a thing
I only hear the space
I could hear your voice
Singing through the smoke
But I can’t hear a word
So I listen for the slow hum and vibration
Manifestations of you
I can’t feel a thing
I only feel the absence
I could feel your warmth
Teasing from the cold
and I can’t feel the burn
So I’ll sing this for
The slow growth and creation
The precious sensation of you
Hold me dear, if you let me go
we’ll both dissapear
Dance my dear
Sing in my ear
Keep me warm
Keep us from fear
Just remind me that you’re out there,
and find me through the crowd
We are numb until we touch
I’ll be searching for
Our sweet communication
Perfect sensations with you.
What art tells us is that there is something that is not you: that which makes every perspective that exists in all of being, in anything that our minds can conjure, and even those non-things that we can’t. That something is still all at once, exactly like us. A mirror held up to the nature of being. We are something looking at itself, a product (being) and an observer (consciousness). Art makes us understand those principles in its happening. Art breathes truth into existence.
